Take A Deep Breath

So it's been a few days since I last posted. Sufjan Stevens is a hard guy to post after.

I feel like the Mondays after a wonderful extended holiday are always doomed to suck. It's inevitable. Therefore, I think we need a song that will totally mellow you out.

Check out Clara Klein. She came up on my Pandora last night and I haven't been able to stop listening to this. It is SUCH a relaxing song. Take a deep breath and listen to this beautiful song.

Dancing Saturday

Sufjan Stevens
Um yes please

There really isn't much to say...except put this song on full volume, and dance your heart out. Happy Saturday!

Chill Out

I am here to introduce a musician that I found a few months ago. Her name is Chris Pureka.

She plays a mean guitar. If any of you listen to Pandora, I strongly suggest her station. You won't be disappointed. She has this raw, emotional voice and with her folky guitar playing, its a really good combo. She's one of those artists where it's really hard to pick only one song to tell you about. "Cruel and Clumsy", "Burning Bridges", and "31 and Falling" are all awesome songs. The one for today however, is called "Song For November". I thought it would be good as we're almost at the end of the month! Time sure does fly by!

So for those of you who decided to risk injury and insanity by going Black Friday shopping, here is a good song to chill out. Grab a good cup of coffee (or tea), a warm blanket, and listen to some Chris Pureka

Come Away With Me

It's Thanksgiving...which is a lovely time of year. Everyone has something to be thankful for. Friends, family, the copious amounts of food to be consumed (all of the above?). Today, my dad, sister and I ran the Turkey Trot. I think that it is a genius idea. Think about it--you run 3.1 miles roughly....and when you go to eat your Thanksgiving meal, there's NO way you can feel the least bit guilty for how much pie you eat. You ran 3.1 miles....you can eat the whole pie AND some.
It was WAY too cold. But so much fun!
Okay so hold up. As cheerful as everyone is on Thanksgiving, you have to remember that ominous thought, looming over your head. I of course mean Black Friday.

People trampling other people in order to get a deal---at midnight. If you've shopped at midnight on Black Friday, I'm really impressed. I'd rather be sleeping in my nice warm bed...avoiding such crowds. My advice for staying positive and cheerful on Black Friday? Two words:

Norah Jones.

She is AMAZING. I think she's magical. Everything she touches (or sings, rather) is gold. The song that comes to mind, is the one that I most likely will get married to. It's called, "Come Away With Me". So do me a favor here:

I will post a version on here, if you're seriously the laziest person on the planet. However, because you're already on the internet, do me a HUGE favor....go to Norah's website. www.norahjones.com

From there, click on Media, click the TV, and watch the video for Come Away With Me. THEN you will understand my adoration for this song. It's so insanely simple...yet amazing. So yes, here is a version for all of you super lazy people. You will not understand the mere amazingness of this song...if you don't go to Norah's website. SO DO IT.

Everyday is a Holiday

So, it's raining...and cold. That is NOT how a Monday should be, ever. In order to counteract this, I really think that the song below makes everything happy. I encourage everyone to listen to this song and learn the lyrics. From there, when it comes on your Ipod, singing along to it will automatically make you think happy thoughts. Therefore, as I listen to this song, I think of the things that make me happy....like the following:

A reallllllllllly good cup of hot chocolate, or coffee. or BOTH

My silly little kitty, Georgie

My gorgeous sisters

The beach....sigh

The song is called, "Everyday is a Holiday (With You) by Esthero. Take a minute to listen to this and think of everything that makes you happy. Happy Monday!

Throwwwwwwwback!

So last night prior to going out, my sister and I took a trip down memory lane. We watched some music videos from the early 2000s and late 90s (I will not include the titles just to save face here). Seriously though, the outfits were unreal. How did we grow up thinking that these were, dare I say, "cool"? Sorry but these pictures are just necessary to force you back to the 90s.

I really thought I was going to marry one of them.

First CD I ever got. I thought they were WAY better than NSYNC
.................S Club anyone?

Good ol 90s music. SO cool. Choreographed dance moves, good beat, phrases like, "mmmmbop", "you are my fire, the one desire" and, wait for it, "there ain't no party like an s club party".

Okay you can stop cringing. Here's a good 90s song. In 1997, Third Eye Blind released their first album. I am a HUGE Third Eye Blind fan. Really, there isn't a single song that they could sing that I wouldn't like. The song I'm going to post is, "Losing A Whole Year". I hope you like it!

Alright, let's wake up!

It's Friday. Which means that the music should be upbeat. It should pretty much say, 'heck yes, it's the weekend...i'm gonna headbang to the next song i hear'. like exhibit a:
They look a little out of it. But you get the point.

So what does a 'headbanging' song look like to you? In order to fully justify it as so, you must be able to notice the following instances, when the potential song is on:

-headbanging of course
-drumming on the steering wheel and/or any other object around
-spastically dancing
-belting out the lyrics (or attempting to sing)

For me, Hysteria by Muse comes to mind. The first few seconds of the song with the bass going CRAZZZY kind of gets you in the mood. Then the guitar, beat, and vocals. It's a great song to dance to in the car. This is a bit different than the other songs posted but you know what? It's healthy to get out of your comfort zone. Plus this song is amazing. What are some songs that YOU think fit the scenario?

"When We're Together, I Know I'll Never Fall"

I love Starbucks. And white lights. Has anyone noticed how adorable their cups are now, with the little sayings on them? Hence the title of this post. Normally, I would be totally against the fact that yet another entity in the USA has begun decorating for Christmas prior to Thanksgiving (why not put up some pictures of pumpkin pies, or stuffing?), however Starbucks won me over today and got me in the mood to post the following song.

While I was driving home today, I was drinking an apple chai. Am I a tea drinker? Heck no. However, with my throat hurting and the chilly weather, I got an apple chai. So there I was, in my car, with my Ipod on random mode, about to throw the stupid Ipod out the window because there was not a song that I thought would be good to post. This was probably the tea talking because I became very irate.

But then, the song for today came on. Jonsi (I don't know how to do the symbol with the accent on it) has an interesting sound to him--I honestly have to be in the mood to listen to him. However, he does a FANTASTIC cover of MGMT's "Time to Pretend". This song is a very upbeat, fast paced song. Jonsi's cover of it is SO incredibly beautiful. I love both versions. I hope you enjoy!

If You Don't Know Laura Marling....Shame On You

The title of this post pretty much sums up what needs to be said. Laura Marling is a British artist that has an amazing voice. The first thought that I had when I saw this video, in all honesty, is that she looks JUST like Luna Lovegood (no judging). Then, she starts to sing and her voice is NOT what I expected. So then, because I officially judged her on both being a Harry Potter character and a different voice to match her looks, I gave up. I just said, "you know what, play the song Laura". That's when I was blown away. Her guitar playing skills=absolutely beautiful. The whole scenery of the music video is gorgeous.

If you like this song, check out the rest of her stuff. Another one that I recommend of hers is "Tap At My Window". That song is amazing as well.

Thoughts?

Being Sick=Instrumental Music

So I have a cold. It's that time of year where everyone comes into work all sniffily and coughing everywhere. It is almost impossible to not get sick.

Instrumental music is almost the majority of my music taste. I love a song that has piano, cello, or guitar in the background. You probably noticed that in the past few posts (hence The Cinematic Orchestra). Just wait until Christmas time....Trans Siberian Orchestra will come about.

However, it has come to my attention that everyone and their mother is currently obsessed with The Civil Wars. I don't blame them. They are really good. Very folk-y. Joy Williams has a beautiful voice that is harmonized well with the gentle voice of John Paul White. Instead of posting an example, I want to post their instrumental song called, "The Violet Hour". There are no words, just instruments and by golly, it is wonderful...especially when words are just not wanted. I hope you enjoy!

Why I Hate Sunday Morning Cleaning

I have a really good feeling that this will NOT be the only post on here in regards to my loathing of Sunday morning cleaning. I know I talked about Saturday morning cleaning....but let's be honest. That never happens. Thus, because I find fun things to do Saturday, I usually resort to Sundays to clean (actually, if you look at the previous post, I chill and watch tv all day...hence no cleaning happens at all). Nonetheless, Sundays are sometimes for cleaning and you know what? I hate it. I wake up, with the full intent of cleaning my entire apartment. Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the whole bathroom. I drink coffee, I get dressed, and then something happens. I think it's my body's recognition that 'hey, we're about to start cleaning. time to get lazy'.

Therefore, I waste time. I watch a million football games, I watch Modern Family (great show), I find about a trillion other ways to occupy my time. What are some good songs to listen to while cleaning? I need a good bunch of songs to compile together to ensure that I will not slow down and stop.

Here's one of them. Florence and the Machine is fantastic. Obviously the first song that I found was Dog Days Are Over. Then Cosmic Love. Well, they just came out with a new album. If you haven't listened to it yet, stop what you're doing and go to Itunes. It is fabulous. Here is one of the songs from their new album called, "Shake It Out". Hope you enjoy!

Is It the Weekend Yet?

I was SO excited on my way to work this morning---mainly because I thought it was Friday. Lo and behold, once I got in the parking lot, it hit me like a ton of bricks. It's Thursday. What.a.bummer.

I was looking over the past songs that I've posted and the overall theme is "mellow". We need something to bring in the weekend accordingly. Something that can your head moving along with the beat. Something that can get you in the mind frame that, 'yeah, it's the weekend'. Something celebratory. The group "Sleigh Bells" constantly comes out with awesome hits. This is one of them. I love running to this song...or turning it up really loud in my car and drumming along. No matter how it is played, I hope this helps bring a little kick to your step. It's almost Friday!!!

A Beautiful Fall Run

My sister and I went for a nice little jog this afternoon---for about 20 minutes. Not only was the sun bright...but it was higher than 40 degrees. THAT is rare this time of year.

While I was running, I couldn't help but look at the red trees and the way the sun was setting. The scenery was beautiful. Trust me...I'm not as elegant with my descriptions of the scenery as some people however, I was really taken by this.

Therefore this song that I'm going to post is the perfect song to listen to when you're driving in this fall weather. It's just the right tempo, just the right instruments, just the right voice. I hope you all enjoy!

One of the Most Beautiful Songs....Ever

Today was a long day of work. Plus, due to daylight savings, as soon as I leave work, the sun is going down. It's miserable. Therefore, I think I need to post a really sad, sweet, beautiful, song. I'm sure there will be a few of those. But for those of you who need a really beautiful song to unwind from a long, cold day--here you go.

Damien Rice--9 Crimes

The End of a Weekend

Saturdays are generally a cleaning day for me. I hate cleaning. I always find about, a million other things that I would rather do. Because of this, a proper playlist has to be created in order to survive this horrific thing that must be done. It can't be mellow or I'd fall asleep. It can't be too intense or I won't focus.

Sundays are quite the opposite. Chill....relaxing....football. That's pretty much how to summarize them.

Therefore...to incorporate both feelings into one, here is a song off of Coldplay's newest album. It's really chill but it'll get you up and moving around. It's called, "Up With the Birds"

Best Concert Ever

Last night, I had the amazing privilege of seeing the wonderful Rachael Yamagata in concert and after, I got to talk with her! She is arguably one of the coolest people I've ever met. She was really chill and acted as though she knew everyone. She wasn't shy, or rude, which was fantastic. The whole concert was beautiful and the fact that she was so down to earth made it all the better.

Therefore, here is one of her music videos from her more recent album, that came out this past month. The song is called Starlight. This song really gets you moving! If you want one of her more mellower songs, I fully recommend Be Be Your Love. You can't go wrong with any of her songs!

The First

Hello!

Welcome! The main point of this blog, is the share music that has inspired me in so many different ways. A song a day will be added, based on the contents of that actual day. You may love some, you may not feel another. Discussion is always welcome.

The first song is currently playing in the background as I type. I couldn't think of a better song to start this off with, then The Cinematic Orchestra-To Build a Home. It is absolutely beautiful. The perfect song to listen to after a lonnngggg Tuesday. Enjoy!
